Marathon Journal: 7 Miles

January 25, 2010

Today was my short-long run. No big problems, my knees held up well. Averaged just over 11 minute miles.

I think the theme of this year’s marathon is that it will be a purely mental run, assuming my body holds up. It’s hard to jog even the 7 miles today, without last year’s fire and excitement. I need the Eye of the Tiger. Does that mean I have to get a cabin in the snow and chop wood? I’m hoping it will be a little easier, like chopping some Sevan Chicken instead.

Shuffle: Prince, Fleetwood Mac, Larry Arnn lecturing on the great Western thinkers on an old Hugh Hewitt podcast.

    Hey Doug,

Here’s a quote to encourage you not to worry about future runs. ‘Worry doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength’ Corrie Ten Boom

    Keep running.

Nice work Doug, I’m glad your knees are OK. I think the vast majority of folks who have ever run a marathon fall into the one and done catagory. They check that off the bucket list and move on. The first time you run 10 miles in your life you feel like an Iron Man. After that, the thrill is gone. Now you need the mental endurance to keep grinding away. But there is certainly some satisfaction in sticking to your plan. Day in and day out, you’ve set a goal and you’ve done your best.
